A "chop shop" in the area of Trafalgar Rd/Lower Base Line in Milton was raided by the Halton Regional Police on Mar. 10, 2023, resulting in the recovery of a dozen stolen vehicles and 20 stolen license plates. Several of the vehicles were in the process of being stripped for parts. The stolen vehicles and plates were from various cities, including Halton, Hamilton, Peel, Durham, York, and Toronto.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. However, Halton police urge residents to report any thefts or suspicious activity in their neighborhoods by calling 911. They also recommend several protective measures to reduce the risk of vehicle theft, such as parking in a locked garage, installing on-board diagnostic blockers/protectors, steering wheel lock devices, GPS tracking devices, and home security cameras.
Residents are also advised to park a second vehicle behind a potential target vehicle. The Regional Auto Theft Task Force can be contacted at 905-825-4777 ext. 3407 for any information related to the investigation. Although auto thefts happen frequently, we all share the responsibility to help prevent them.
