Milton Public Library has much more to offer than just books—it’s full of useful resources! From the Library of Things to youth programs and archives, there’s something for everyone.
And now, they even offer honey. The Beaty branch has its own beehives behind the building, where honey is harvested by Humble Bee, a Hamilton-based business founded by Luc Peters. Concerned by the decline of the bee population, Peters learned beekeeping to produce real, accessible honey and started Humble Bee in 2013.
“Partnering with Humble Bee supports our mission to inspire learning, foster community, and promote sustainability,” said Chris Dorscht, Director of Customer Experience at the library. The partnership enables the library to offer STEAM programs on beekeeping while also selling honey, linking patrons to local environmental efforts.
Since 2020, Humble Bee and the library have collaborated on workshops and, despite challenges like climate change, this year’s honey harvest was successful. Now, all library branches are selling this local honey for $10 per jar, with a special $6 price in October.
