Every bit helps when you're pursuing higher education.
CIBC is helping Wilfrid Laurier University by creating two new awards to support students and build the new Milton campus.
The bank is providing $50,000 for the CIBC Milton Founders Entrance Scholarship, which will be given to new undergraduate students at the Milton campus.
They are also providing $300,000 for the CIBC STEM Entrance Award. This will support full-time first-year undergraduate students at Laurier who are Black, Indigenous, or living with disabilities.
Both awards will prioritize students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs.
Laurier’s president, Deborah Mac Latchy, said this funding will help the next generation of innovators by making STEM programs more accessible and supporting the university's inclusive environment.
Laurier’s Milton campus, located at 555 Industrial Dr., opened this year with 90 students studying computer science and psychology. The campus could eventually grow to 2,500 students.
Akil Bishop from CIBC said the awards are part of the bank’s mission to remove barriers for students. He explained that these scholarships will improve access to STEM education and help students become future leaders and changemakers.
