"Empowering Women: Women's Day March Set to Take Place in Milton"

On March 6, 2025, Milton will once again come together for its annual International Women’s Day March, a powerful demonstration of unity and advocacy for gender equality. The event will commence at 10 a.m. at Hugh Foster Hall, bringing together students, local politicians, community leaders, and members of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW).

The march will be followed by a series of speeches and discussions, highlighting the achievements of women and addressing ongoing challenges in the fight for equal rights. Participants will carry banners and signs promoting empowerment, education, and leadership opportunities for women and girls.

A Global Movement with Local Impact

International Women’s Day (IWD) was officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977, establishing an annual occasion to celebrate women's contributions to society while advocating for continued progress toward equality. Over the decades, IWD has grown into a worldwide movement, with communities like Milton playing a vital role in driving change at the local level.

The Importance of Support and Opportunity

Linda Hunter, a representative from the Milton chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women, emphasized the significance of such events in shaping the future of young women.

"Girls need to be supported by their families and their peers to become strong, confident women—women with equal opportunity at post-secondary education, women with ideas and policies to shape our society, women with leadership ambitions to carry our world forward," Hunter stated in an email.

This year’s march aims to not only celebrate the progress made but also to inspire the next generation of female leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers.

Milton residents of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend, walk in solidarity, and stand up for a more inclusive and equitable world.
