A cold snap has arrived, and Environment Canada has issued a warning for most of Ontario, including Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills.

“Be ready for very cold weather. Temperatures may be colder than what we've had in the last few years. Frostbite can happen quickly on exposed skin. Stay dry to stay warmer,” said Environment Canada in its forecast for Burlington Lift Bridge at 7 a.m. today.

The warning started at 1 a.m. Monday and will last until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22.

At 7 a.m. today, the temperature at Burlington Lift Bridge was -11°C and is expected to reach a high of -10°C later in the day.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in Burlington are a high of -2°C and a low of -11°C.

For Burlington, Oakville, Milton, and Halton Hills (north Halton will be a bit colder), here’s the forecast:

  • Highs: -10°C Monday, -12°C Tuesday, -9°C Wednesday.

  • Overnight lows: -15°C Monday night into Tuesday, -19°C Tuesday night into Wednesday, and -12°C Wednesday night into Thursday.

  • Wind chill will make it feel even colder.

There won’t be much snow, just a few flurries here and there.
