"Give Your Household Items a Second Life at Sustainable Milton's Repair Café"

Local non-profit Sustainable Milton wants to help people make their belongings last longer and keep them out of the landfill.

On Saturday, October 26, Milton will host its first-ever Repair Café, joining over 2,500 cities around the world. Volunteers known as "fixers" will repair items brought in by attendees for free. This event supports the growing global movement for sustainable practices, like the right to repair.

Repair Cafés began in 2009 in Amsterdam, created by environmentalist Martine Postma. Now, Milton’s local group plans to hold 10 such cafés each year at different locations around town. The first one will be held at the Milton Sports Centre (650 Santa Maria Blvd.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you’d like to attend, email Sustainable Milton with details about what you need repaired and book a time slot at repair@sustainablemilton.ca. While they won’t fix items like stereos, microwaves, or computers, they will accept things like toasters, irons, hair dryers, and more.
