Halton Healthcare Reminds Residents of Emergency Service Alternatives

After a busy Friday, Halton Healthcare is reminding residents to consider their options before heading to the emergency room. All three hospitals in the Halton Healthcare network—Milton District Hospital, Georgetown Hospital, and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital—experienced high patient volumes leading into the weekend.

While hospital staff are dedicated to treating all patients, not every situation requires a visit to the emergency room. On Friday, January 3rd, Halton Healthcare issued a notice encouraging residents to explore other healthcare options for non-urgent medical needs.

“Our hospitals are always here to provide emergency medical care,” the notice states. “However, for non-urgent conditions, you may be able to get the care you need more quickly through other options.”

Alternative healthcare options include:

  • Contacting your family doctor or nurse practitioner.

  • Consulting your pharmacist for advice.

  • Visiting an urgent care center or walk-in clinic.

  • Accessing Health 811 online or by calling 811 to speak with a Registered Nurse 24/7.

By considering these alternatives, residents can help reduce emergency room wait times and ensure timely care for everyone.

Thank you great advice

But I also have a doctor who does not care much since covid.

I call and I'm still waiting

I wanted to be sent for a brain scan

Her secretary called and I missed call and I called back saying Sorry I missed your call been 4 days no response.

I can't find a family doctor in miltion.

During covid my doctor decided to move to mississauga

And I use to see her once a month

I'm lucky to see her once a year.

This is not the first time she's ignored me.

So I see why people end up at emergency.

She left milton during covid
