"Have Your Say in Shaping the Future of the Milton Public Library!"

The Milton Public Library (MPL) is planning for the future, and they want your input! They’ve created a draft Library Master Plan for 2025-2029, based on feedback from more than 2,000 Milton residents earlier this year. This next step is about reviewing the plan and making sure nothing is missing.

According to MPL’s CEO and Chief Librarian, Sarah Douglas-Murray, this plan is crucial for the community. It focuses on four main areas:

  1. Telling Our Story

    • Connect more with the community and understand the unique needs of each library branch.

    • Highlight MPL’s successes and show the value of libraries.

  2. Building Strong Infrastructure

    • Plan for future growth with proper physical spaces and technology.

    • Create welcoming, safe spaces for everyone.

    • Explore new ways to offer library services outside of current locations.

  3. Creating a Resilient Organization

    • Strengthen library governance and ensure staffing can meet future needs.

    • Focus on staff training, especially in technology, and work with the Town of Milton on workforce development.

  4. Delivering Quality Services

    • Offer inclusive and responsive programming for the community.

    • Collaborate with schools, the town, and community groups to achieve MPL’s goals.

    • Use data to build collections that keep up with Milton’s growing population.

MPL has been focusing on technology, including creating ‘Maker Spaces’ with 3D printers and tech devices like Apple products at the Beaty Branch. They are also investing in staff training to better serve the community.

With three branches—Main, Sherwood, and Beaty—MPL is seeing a rise in visits, expecting over 625,000 people this year, which is a 20% increase from 2023. A fourth branch is likely to open before the end of the decade.

You can share your thoughts on the draft Master Plan by completing a survey before Sunday, November 3rd. Participants will be entered into a draw to win a $200 gift certificate to the First Ontario Arts Centre Milton! Just fill out the survey and provide your email to enter.
