"He's always had a creative mind": Meet Milton's Puppet Master

As Milton kids excitedly tore through boxes and wrapping paper this past Christmas, 12-year-old Cole Magallanes approached his gifts with patience and precision.

In Cole's home, packaging is as thrilling as the gift inside — from a creative perspective, that is.

"Boxes don’t get thrown out here," joked his father, Jason, as Cole showed off a container of his building materials.

In a corner of Cole’s basement workshop, a photo of Geppetto and Pinocchio hangs proudly, serving as inspiration for his latest creative pursuit.

This passion began last summer, sparked by a mix of how-to videos and the iconic characters of a beloved entertainment venue.

"Watching how the characters moved and knowing someone made them... it just clicked for me," Cole said, recalling the online videos that ignited his interest in puppet-making.

His first creation, Chuck E. Cheese’s Crusty the Cat, was just the beginning. Since then, Cole has completed the Pizza Time Players and crafted nearly two dozen puppets, including characters from Country Bear Jamboree.

"The most fun and challenging part is shaping the puppet to look like the character," said Cole, carefully manipulating rods and strings to animate one of his creations.

Cole now shares his passion on his Blue Face Productions YouTube channel, where he has started integrating animatronics into his puppets — a natural evolution for someone so eager to explore and learn.

"This is all him," said Jason. "I have a background in electronics, but he’s figuring this out on his own."

Cole spends most of his free time in his workshop, continuing his creative journey, which began three years ago with custom plushies. His collection of around 200 plush creations fills a couch in the basement, many looking as polished as store-bought toys.

"He’s always had a creative mind," Jason said. "This puppet-making isn’t a surprise. It’s more like, ‘What’s he going to do next?’"
