Halton Police Issue Warning After $5,000 Watch Stolen in Distraction Theft
Halton police are urging residents to remain vigilant following a series of distraction thefts reported across the region. The latest incident occurred yesterday afternoon (Nov. 24) in the parking lot of Shoppers Drug Mart on Nipissing Road in Milton.
At approximately 2:14 p.m., the victim was approached by a suspect on foot. According to media relations officer Jeff Dillon, the suspect offered what appeared to be fake jewelry as a gift and attempted to place the jewelry on the victim. During this interaction, the victim's luxury watch, valued at over $5,000, was stealthily removed.
The suspect is described as a white woman, aged between 30 and 40, with a medium build.
Police emphasize the importance of being cautious in public spaces, particularly when approached by strangers offering unsolicited items or gifts. Distraction thefts often involve similar tactics, where a suspect uses diversionary methods to draw attention away while stealing valuables.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Halton police or Crime Stoppers. Residents are also advised to report any suspicious behavior immediately and to keep personal belongings secure and out of easy reach.
Stay alert and help protect yourself and your community from similar crimes.
