As Remembrance Day approaches, Milton prepares to honor those who have defended our freedoms and those who continue to serve. A series of commemorative events are planned to pay tribute to their dedication.
The remembrance begins this Sunday, Nov. 3, with the Soldier’s Memorial Halton ville Service at the Halton ville Cenotaph, located at Guelph Line and 15 Sideroad. The ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 10, the Victoria Park Cenotaph service will take place. Veterans and dignitaries will march from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 136 (21 Charles St.) to Victoria Park at 150 Mary St., with the ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterward at the Legion.
Milton’s traditional Remembrance Day service is set for Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery (230 Ontario St.). A parade will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Cenotaph and proceed to the Cairn for the service. Following the service, veterans are invited to a luncheon and Pilgrimage of Remembrance presentation at the Legion. Doors open at noon, the presentation starts at 12:30 p.m., and lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available while supplies last.
Miltonians are encouraged to purchase a poppy from local store displays or from Poppy Campaign volunteers until Nov. 11.
Additionally, this year’s Legacy of Honour program by the Milton Legion has unveiled 43 veterans’ banners along downtown Main Street, adding a moving tribute to local Remembrance Day events.
