Get ready for a hilarious twist on a classic tale! Milton’s Brightside Players are bringing the British-style pantomime Snow White to the First Ontario Arts Centre on Dec. 6, 7, and 8.
“It’s truly the most fun you can have at Christmastime, and it’s become a real family tradition,” says director Erin Mason. “We find that once you come to a Christmas panto, you’ll be back every year.”
British pantomime is a unique theatrical experience, known for its slapstick humor, lively music, dance, and interactive comedy. Traditionally performed around the holidays in the U.K., these shows feature flamboyant costumes, over-the-top characters, and often include an older man in a female role, all to heighten the comedic effect.
According to Mason, audience participation is central to the experience. “With panto, there’s always a villain that everyone boos, and when the hero arrives, the crowd cheers. It’s not just a fairy tale retold—we add a fun twist, modernize it, and play to the audience.”
For over ten years, Brightside Players have brought vibrant community theater to Milton, casting local talent and creating family-friendly performances that celebrate the joy of live theatre. This year’s Snow White includes a dynamic cast of 49 performers, ranging in age from six to over 65, ensuring there’s something for everyone in this seasonal favorite.
