Milton councillors expected to give thumbs up to new future street names.

During the upcoming regular council meeting in Milton, there will be a discussion about several proposed street names. As per a report, 27 street names were received and reviewed by the Town staff. Out of these, 19 names met the policy criteria and are recommended to be included in the street name bank, subject to Council approval. The list also includes three names to be released from the alternate street name bank for former councillors who are no longer in office.

The approved street names are Baker, Gravelle, Wenover, Seeds, Pearce, Leworthy, Baron, Curtis, Ridley, LeBlanc, Gerrits, Haydar, Hogarth, Teague, Grant, Condren, DiLorenzo, Hamid, and Cluett. However, one name didn't make the cut because the person who proposed it wanted to name the street after their significant other as a way of proposing.

Seven other names were denied by one of the region's emergency service partners as they were too similar to existing street names. These names - Early, Bryce, Bailey, Rowney, Brittain, Turner, and Richardson - will be considered in the future depending on the emergency service requirements.

The report also states that any approved street names may undergo further review by emergency service partners. This is because the time between council approval and the adoption of these names may overlap with other street names implemented for other Halton municipalities during the adoption period.
