He Hindu community in Milton is preparing to bring the spirit of Diwali to life at Milton Mall with their first-ever "Festive India" event. Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most important celebrations in Hindu culture, and this year, it will be hosted at the mall located at 55 Ontario St. S.
On October 19, ten local organizations are coming together to create an exciting and inclusive event for all ages. The day will feature fun activities like youth workshops where kids can decorate traditional Diya's, while adults can explore vibrant exhibits throughout the mall.
According to Meenakshi Bhagya from Chinmaya Mission Halton, the goal is to bring the community together with joy and friendship, inviting people from all backgrounds to join in.
A key focus of the event is the Hindu value of "Seva," or selfless service. Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable food donations for the charity Food for Life. These donations can also be dropped off at any Milton Public Library branch, where there will be displays celebrating Hindu culture.
Hemant Bhai, from the Halton Gujarati Seniors Samaj, emphasizes the power of collective action, saying, “Together, we can make a bigger impact.”
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with special children’s workshops at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Food donations will be accepted throughout October at the library.
