The Halton Regional Police have charged a driver involved in a crash that killed a man from Milton in September.
Andrew Couto, 35, was driving a GMC Sierra that crashed into several vehicles at the intersection of Ontario Street South and Derry Road. This crash led to the death of a 55-year-old man from Milton.
Couto is charged with dangerous driving causing death, according to the Criminal Code. He will appear in court in Milton later.
Update (Sunday, September 22)Police confirmed the death of the 55-year-old man. They are asking anyone who saw the crash or has dashboard camera footage to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 extension 5065.
Update (Saturday, September 21)The crash happened around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, at the intersection of Derry Road and Ontario Street South in Milton. Andrew Couto’s GMC Sierra was heading west on Derry Road when it hit several cars. The GMC then crossed the center median, flipped over, and hit more cars in the eastbound lanes, involving a total of eight vehicles.
One of the cars hit by the GMC was a Toyota Corolla driven by a 55-year-old Milton man. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a trauma center, where he remained in critical condition. At the time of writing, no deaths had been reported.
