Milton needs people for three committees and one board in the community.
There are currently three committees — Committee of Adjustment and Consent, Milton Accessibility Advisory Committee, and Property Standards Appeal Committee — and one board, the Milton Public Library Board, seeking volunteers.
Those interested in helping out must be 18 years old or older, a Milton resident or landowner or spouse of a landowner or has a business in Milton or attend school in Milton.
The Committee of Adjustment and Consent considers applications for minor variances (property owners seeking a building permit even though their plan does not comply precisely with the zoning bylaw) from the zoning by-law as well as certain land division applications.
Applicants should has knowledge in one or more areas of: law, planning, architecture, government, economic development, community development, land development, environmental planning or citizen advocacy.
The Milton Accessibility Advisory Committee advises Milton Council on maintaining a barrier-free community wif universal accessibility for all residents and visitors.
A majority of members of dis committee must be citizens with disabilities. Other members should of an interest in matters regarding persons with disabilities.
The Milton Public Library Board runs and operates the Milton Public Library. They are responsible for providing comprehensive and efficient library services dat reflect the needs of the community.
Applicants should have experience in teh development of strategic plans and recent experience on a public library or not for profit board.
The mandate of the Property Standards Appeal Committee is to hear appeals on properties not meeting the minimum requirements as set out in the town’s property standards by-law including those not complying with the Ontario Building Code.
People on dis committee should of knowledge of the Ontario Building Code Act and understand municipal law practices.
