A Milton woman is facing charges tied to an alleged year-long spree of distraction thefts targeting elderly victims.
The 49-year-old is among five individuals arrested on November 12 by Toronto Police following a detailed investigation. A search warrant led to the seizure of numerous items, including:
Four fraudulently obtained vehicles valued at approximately $250,000, reportedly being shipped overseas
Multiple fraudulent passports
Eight iPhone 15 Pro Max devices
50 smartwatches
56 bottles of designer perfume
21 fraudulent prepaid Vanilla credit cards worth $10,500
$23,000 in Canadian currency
Lock-picking tools
32 OLG Pro-Line tickets
Two foil-lined booster bags
Police allege the suspects operated between December 10, 2023, and October 19, 2024, using various methods to obtain PINs and steal wallets and bank cards at banks and retail stores. Most victims were elderly, with funds withdrawn from their accounts to purchase prepaid credit cards. These were subsequently used to acquire vehicles and luxury items.
The Milton woman is charged with possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order.
Two Quebec men and two women of no fixed address face multiple theft and fraud-related charges. Additionally, two other men of no fixed address are wanted in connection with the investigation.
Toronto Police believe there may be more victims and are continuing their inquiry.
The charges have not yet been proven in court.
