Following the successful opening of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Secondary School last fall, Milton could soon see another school rise next door.
The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) has submitted an application to construct a new elementary school just east of St. Kateri on Louis St. Laurent Avenue, near Kennedy Circle.
Currently named Milton #11 Catholic Elementary School as a placeholder, the school’s official name will be decided by a committee in the 2025-2026 school year.
The proposed three-story building will sit on a 5.3-hectare site, with part of the land designated for a natural heritage system, including a trail. The plan also includes a daycare, play area, parking, a bus loop, and a designated parental pick-up zone.
HCDSB Chief Financial Officer Ryan Merrick stated that the new school is intended to ease enrolment pressure at St. Peter, St. Scholastica, and St. Veronica Catholic Elementary Schools. Graduates of Milton #11 will transition directly to St. Kateri for high school, and both schools will share a track and field loop.
If approved by the Town Council—expected to make a decision by July 2024—the school aims to open in September 2026. However, Merrick noted that several milestones must be met before construction can begin.
Further design details were presented at a public meeting on September 9, 2024.
