Milton Conservation Commission to Install ADA-Accessible Viewing Platform in Town Forest

MILTON — The Milton Conservation Commission is expanding accessibility to nature by planning a 24-by-22-foot viewing platform in the Milton Town Forest, set for completion in summer 2025. This platform will serve as the final destination on the new ADA-accessible trail, providing a serene spot for observing wildlife and appreciating the forest’s natural beauty.

Initiated in 2015, this multi-phase project aims to make Milton’s outdoor spaces more inclusive, especially considering its significant population of residents with disabilities. The expanded trail, completed in November 2023, offers smooth paths and widened pathways, culminating in this scenic platform, where all visitors can experience the sights and sounds of nature.

“The ultimate destination is our viewing platform near the marsh area,” explained Cymone Bedford, Milton’s planning and development review director. “It’s a peaceful place where people can sit, relax, and learn about the surrounding wildlife and natural habitat.”

With benches, wheelchair-friendly picnic tables, and interpretive signs detailing the area’s flora and fauna, the platform was thoughtfully designed to foster a welcoming environment for all. Conservation Commission Chair William Pikul shared his enthusiasm: “This platform is about reconnecting people with nature. We want everyone to feel comfortable, whether they’re here for a quiet lunch, a scenic walk, or a school outing.”

Expected to be a popular site for field trips, family outings, and nature walks, the Milton Town Forest ADA Trail and viewing platform represent the town’s commitment to conservation and inclusivity, ensuring nature is accessible to everyone.
