The Ontario government has officially called for a by-election in Milton.
According to the Election Act, by-elections are called on a Wednesday and held on the fifth Thursday after the writ is issued. This means that voting day will be on Thursday, May 2nd.
This by-election is happening because Parm Gill, the Milton MPP, resigned from his position in January. He will be joining Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party in the upcoming federal election, where he will run against the current Milton MP, Adam van Koeverden.
For this by-election, the Progressive Conservatives have chosen Zeeshan Hamid, a former Milton Councillor, as their candidate.
The Ontario Liberal Party has named Galen Naidoo Harris as their candidate. He is the son of former Milton MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris, who held the position from 2014 to 2018.
As of now, the NDP has not announced their candidate for Milton. In the 2022 provincial election, they were represented by Katherine-Anne Cirlincione.
Similarly, the Ontario Green Party has not yet announced their candidate. In 2022, they were represented by Oriana Knox. Disclaimer: The information presented in this news article has been gathered from local news sources. Please refer to the provided references for verification. Click Here.
