Every little bit helps when it comes to saving lives.
On October 22, Milton Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS) received funding from Enbridge Gas to buy firefighting training materials. The money comes from the Safe Community Project Assist program, which supports fire departments in Ontario where Enbridge Gas operates. The program helps volunteer and mixed fire departments get extra training.
In total, $125,000 is being shared between 25 fire departments in Ontario.
MFRS Chief Peter Gatto said the firefighters are grateful for the support. "With the Safe Community Project Assist, we can give our firefighters the training they need to improve their skills and better protect our growing community," Gatto said.
MFRS has full-time and part-time firefighters who provide fire protection and emergency services. The money will be used to buy materials that help train firefighters in life-saving techniques.
Jon Pegg from the Ontario Fire Marshal's office said that having the right tools can save lives. “Fire departments train every day, so it's important they have the right materials to keep everyone safe. Safe Community Project Assist helps departments get these tools and supports ongoing training across Ontario,” Pegg said.
