Halton police have made three arrests after a prearranged transaction for an iPhone in a Milton parking lot allegedly turned into a robbery on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Shortly after 10 p.m., the victim attended a parking lot in the Derry Road and Trudeau Drive area after responding to an online ad offering an iPhone for sale, police said.
Three suspects arrived in a vehicle and handed the iPhone over to the victim.
It’s alleged that as the victim examined the iPhone, which was ultimately determined to be fake, one suspect grabbed cash from the victim’s wallet.
Police said the suspects got back in their vehicle and fled the scene, striking the victim with their vehicle as they left.
The victim received minor injuries.
Police were called and a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle was stopped a short time later.
A 20-year-old Milton man has been charged with robbery and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
A 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, both from Milton, have been charged with robbery.
Halton police have previously stated that a clearly marked Buy & Sell Exchange Zone is available in the visitor parking lot of the Oakville police station at 95 Oak Walk Dr., for transactions arranged online.
Police said that if residents are unable to meet at the exchange zone, they should complete these transactions at well-lit, public and popular locations to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
